With the development of the computer science in many modern countries with excellent education systems such as Finland, the learning of spelling and of dead languages like Latin and that of Philosophy have been almost obliterated from the school system and the learning of computer abilities has taken over.
There are many people who opine that computers is a fundamental knowledge nowadays to get to know other people and for others to get to know your enterprise or your work. Others think that Latin is unnecesary and of little importance for your professional future.
With the passing of time it is becoming more and more obvious the need to include interdisciplinary subjects in all of the university carreers. For example, in England there are many sandwich courses whith are a mixture of different studies. In Spain the university studies are monolithic and the study plans of this careers consists of subjects that are only related to the topic the career is about.
Those who are for the Humanities think that they are necessary to allow the correct development of personality and they permit as well to endow the person with abilities to think logically,to be able to order one´s ideas and to be capable to write them knowing how to draw out the essence of reality.
Some way or other the Computers are a little bit like philology. Everything can be boiled down to being able to read and to use the tools that a programme of software gives you. To think with logic should be a systematized study, and that is philology too.
If this tendence continues in the developed countries,we could find people with a university degree not knowing the rules of logic and without common sense before the prejudices and the ideas that are widespread by the media, without any critical judgement on our part.
Therefore we have to fight for the permanence of the Humanities in the study plan of the high schools and universities. This is a crucial question that is shurgged off. And now it is up to you to give your opinion.
